With the release of WordPress 5.0, the old classic editor was replaced with the new modern Gutenberg block editor. However, some individuals had a tough time adjusting, especially those who use older plugins. Fortunately, it’s easy to bring back the old editor.
Why use the old editor?
- Some plugins work better with the old editor. This will likely change with updates.
- Familiarity and a cohesive workflow.
- Gutenberg block editor is easier to use but can look confusing with some plugins.
- Some third-party tools and widgets still rely on the old editor.
How to restore the old editor
The easiest way to disable the Gutenberg editor is to download the Classic Editor plugin. This plugin allows the user to deactivate the old editor, or use both the new and old editors simultaneously. This comes in handy if the old editor is only partially needed for a specific function. To enable or disable this setting, go to Settings » Writing» Default editor for all users.Â
